Installing the CD

Not a problem with the book itself, but with the CD Catalog on disk.
Every time I try to install a program, I get the singularly unhelpful error
message "Sorry, there was an error installing the file". I'd detail my
computer setup, except that it's pretty bog-standard.

I think there may be a problem in the Support Files folder:
the .ini file references are all to the C: drive,
and an external CD is usually assigned a different drive,
such as E: or F:. The Autorun also calls MS Explorer,
which it assumes on the Desktop. This happens to be right
on my machine.

There could be a windows or MS-DOS "fix" to re-assign the drives,
etc. for us frustrated readers. An alternative is to make a
correct installation program that can live on our PC, and make
the proper environment calls to our Assigned CD-ROM drive.

In the special tip box, the suggested hack of adding -v to the end of the Target line in the properties for the Start Menu shortcut for the
HotSync Manager would not work on my Win98 machine. Upon clicking Apply or
OK, I received an error message telling me that then name in the Target box
was not valid.
