The time I’ve spent in adult classrooms over the years led me to create something I call “Pike’s Five Laws of Adult Learning.” Perhaps the most important law in that list is the Third Law:
Learning is directly proportional to the amount of fun you have.
Let’s face it. If your participants are going to learn anything in your classroom—and then retain that information once they leave—injecting fun into your session is imperative. In this age of entertainment, you will rarely run into a person who would prefer that you simply stand at a podium and teach. I believe the true joy of learning comes from involvement and participation.
