I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The Average Case
Indeed, in a worst-case scenario, Selection Sort is faster than Insertion Sort. However, it’s critical we also take into account the average-case scenario.
Why?
By definition, the cases that occur most frequently are average scenarios. Take a look at the bell curve.
Best- and worst-case scenarios happen relatively infrequently. In the real world, average scenarios are what occur most of the time.
Take a randomly sorted array, for example. What are the odds that the values will occur in perfect ascending or descending order? It’s much more likely that the values will be all over the place.
