Diversity Issues in TAT Use and Alternatives to the TAT
It is highly important to pay attention to individual differences with regard to culture, race, and ethnicity, as well as age, gender, health status, and sexual orientation when using the TAT in psychological testing. As with all psychological tests, the examiner must consider whether the TAT is an appropriate instrument for the intended population, and how interpretation of the results should he influenced by cultural factors. This chapter will discuss the appropriateness of using the TAT with different cultural groups, alternative storytelling tests that have been developed for use with various populations, and issues to consider in interpretation of results.
