5Financial Accounting Research Tools

This chapter provides the researcher with a comprehensive five-step research process as introduced in Chapter 1 for financial accounting research. It focuses primarily on the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Accounting Standards and the online FASB Accounting Standards Codification^TM Research System (the Codification). The chapter also includes a discussion on SEC accounting pronouncements and research using EDGAR and the Electronic Code of Federal Regulations. Finally, two examples of Document Review Simulations (DRSs) for the financial accounting and reporting section of the CPA exam are included in the appendix.
