This chapter builds on prior financial accounting research strategies as applied more broadly to other accounting, financial, business, and legal databases. It recognizes that subscription databases usually have more detailed information than the open web. Additional advice is presented for all the research strategy steps and adds a final fifth step of communicating the research.

Caution: Database research often presents challenges. However, database searches are generally becoming easier, especially because databases are constantly improving. Sometimes, one does not have access to the best database to use for collecting the desired information. When this occurs, use the best alternative database or source of information available through your university or the Internet.
