How it works...

The UBSAN tool is capable of detecting several types of undefined behavior, including the following:

  • Out-of-bounds errors
  • Floating-point errors
  • Division by zero
  • Integer overflows
  • Null-pointer dereferencing
  • Missing returns
  • Signed-/unsigned-conversion errors
  • Unreachable code

In this recipe, we will look at a couple of these examples, but to start, we must first enable the UBSAN tool in our application. To do this, we must enable the following flag in our application's build system:

-fsanitize=undefined

This flag will tell GCC or LLVM to use the UBSAN tool, which adds additional logic to our application as well as links to a UBSAN library. It should be noted that the UBSAN tool grows in its capability over time. For this reason, ...
