It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

In a nutshell: There is no reason to fear your documents, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something.
Document metadata (the term most commonly used to refer to hidden data in your documents) has become such a hot topic in recent years that the amount of misinformation available on the subject is downright rampant. The truth is that this is an extremely important issue, but one that can be easy to manage. The best way to stay in control of your documents and help ensure that you do not share potentially private information is simply to be aware of the types of hidden content that can exist in your document and the steps you can take to resolve them.
