With the advent of 64-bit processors, the need to understand how these processors work and how to debug 64-bit applications is critical. This chapter outlines the fundamentals of 64-bit debugging. The chapter is organized as a complement to all previous chapters in which the debugger listings were captured from systems running a 32-bit version of the operating system. In this chapter, we highlight the difference in behavior when the host systems have a 64-bit architecture. This chapter follows the order in which the concepts are introduced in the book.
