Next-generation batteries designed to be the powerful successors of today’s lithium-ion technology are hopefully called post-lithium systems. However, no lithium-ion cell chemistry has yet been found that is able to meet the challenges of battery electric vehicle propulsion over long distances as fossil fuels are already doing in internal combustion engines.
