What You Should Know
For most of the book, only a basic understanding of Java and XML is required. The chapters on writing extensions for Ant ask that you also have a firm understanding of Java inheritance and interfaces. Ant is best used as a system for building and deploying Java-based projects. While some Ant tasks are available that provide the ability to compile and run other languages such as Perl, Python, C, and C#, this book focuses on Ant’s use with Java.
