This chapter looks at how an architect may minimise the risk of breaching the duties that he or she owes. It examines how having a clear agreement can reduce misunderstandings and looks at specific methods of sharing risks in certain circumstances, by careful consideration of the content of the contractual agreements that an architect is most likely to enter into (i.e. those between an architect and a client – either the employer or the contractor – or the architect and any subconsultants that he or she is required to employ).
