Appendix C. Installing the Required Software

I have included many learning activities throughout this book. In order to get the most out of the topics I discuss, you should complete these activities. This is where the theory becomes concrete. It is my hope that you will take these activities seriously and work through them thoroughly and even repeatedly.

The UML modeling activities in Part 1 are meant for someone using UMLet. I chose this program because it is a good diagraming tool to learn on. It enables you to create UML diagrams without adding a lot of advanced features. UMLet is a free open source tool and can be downloaded from www.umlet.com. But you don't need a tool to complete these activities; a paper and pencil will work just fine.
