ON 26 APRIL 2023, basketball fans around the world tuned in for a high-stakes NBA playoff game with massive championship implications. The 2022 NBA Champions Milwaukee Bucks were defending their title from the previous season against the Miami Heat in a crucial first-round playoffs matchup. Trailing 1–3 in the series, the Bucks were in a do-or-die situation—lose this game, and their season would be over.
The game was a rollercoaster of emotions, packed with dramatic twists and turns. The Bucks held a commanding 16-point lead in the fourth quarter, only to see it quickly slip away: with just half a second left in regular time, Miami’s star Jimmy Butler hit a stunning buzzer-beater to send the game into overtime. In the final moments of overtime, while the Bucks had the ball, down 128–126, and as Grayson Allen drove toward the basket, time expired before he could get a shot off. Just like that, the Bucks lost—both the game and the series, 1–4. It was only the sixth time in NBA history that a No. 8 seed (Miami Heat) had eliminated a No. 1 seed (Milwaukee Bucks) in the first round of the playoffs. A crushing defeat.
