GLOSSARY
ambrotype

An early photographic technique used with glass plates that gives the image a very dark brown tone.

aperture

In Aperture Priority mode (A or Av), the photographer selects the aperture desired and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed as needed.

When light is behind the subject, with the direction of the light coming into the camera.

The number of bits representing a color in a single pixel.

A way to create multiple and different exposures of a single scene. One image at normal exposure, one image underexposed by 1 f-stop, and one image overexposed by 1 f-stop creates a 3-stop bracket. The amount of light intensity in an image.

The process of darkening a portion of a photograph. In image editing, this is done with the Burning tool.
