5. The Extension Manifest

The extension manifest is the blueprint of the browser extension. Broadly speaking, it is a config file containing a collection of key-value pairs that dictate what the extension can do and in what fashion.

The content of a manifest differs between manifest versions and browsers. Not all properties can be used by all browsers; some browsers will partially support a property, or even not support it at all.
