Building Your First RAG App

In this chapter, we will build a production-ready RAG application. While there are many RAG tutorials available on the internet that are great for getting started, they are not designed to teach readers how to build applications that are robust, secure, and scalable. We frequently see these applications mistakenly treated as production-ready, and when they are actually deployed in production environments, they frequently fail.

This has contributed, in part, to the high rate of failures of GenAI applications in 2025. In this chapter, we close the gap between real applications and prototypes, and show how to build a robust RAG application that can meet the demands of real production environments.
