Conventions Used in This Book

I use the following font conventions in this book:

Italic is used for:

  • Unix pathnames, filenames, and program names

  • Internet addresses, such as domain names and URLs

  • Object names and classes

  • New terms where they are defined

Constant width is used for:

  • Command lines and options that should be typed verbatim

  • Names and keywords in Java programs, including method names, variable names, and class names

  • XML element names and tags, attribute names, and other XML constructs that appear as they would within an XML document

Constant width bold is used for:

  • Highlighting emphasized areas in code

EJB names are printed in roman. (An EJB name is not necessarily the name of a class or any other Java object.)
