This chapter on setting up the EOS 50D includes an assortment of tasks and digital imaging concepts that are important to consider when you initially set up the 50D and as you continue shooting with it.

Some people think of camera setup as a one-time task, and never or seldom return to change camera settings such as file format and image quality, file numbering, and so on. While that strategy works well for some, the range of shooting situations often demands more frequent changes. The changes are easy to make on the 50D, so it's worthwhile to evaluate individual shooting sessions for the camera setting changes that may be beneficial. As always, understanding the tradeoffs involved in making one choice versus another will benefit you now and in the future.
