2-tier model An application model that is like the client/server architecture, where communication takes place between client and server. In this model, the presentation layer or user interface layer runs on the client side while the dataset layer gets executed and stored on the server side.
3-tier model An application model that has three tiers (aka layers): presentation (web), intermediate (application), and database.
