Within the ASA 5500-X Series models, the ASA 5585-X hardware is designed for a data center network. However, an ASA 5585-X device does not support the Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) software. To meet the needs of a service provider network, Cisco introduced a new career-class Firepower hardware platform that runs FTD on top of a supervisor. The supervisor runs on an independent operating system called the Firepower eXtensible Operating System (FXOS). This chapter discusses the deployment of the FTD software on FXOS.
