So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 57. John the Ripper
As I’ve mentioned several times, there is more to the CLI than a collection of operating system commands. There are many tools—applications written without a thought as to the operating system—available at the CLI to handle a wide range of chores.
Like cracking passwords, for example. Not for nefarious purposes, you understand: but for training and security. If you’ve ever wondered just how secure your passwords are, John the Ripper is a good way to find out. A very much nicer way to find out than having a script-kiddy do it for you.
