1. The Way of the Cloud

As we mentioned in the preface, our goal in this book is to teach you to build cloud native applications. However, the phrase cloud native, as part of the gestalt, carries with it a lot of implied baggage that we would like to leave behind, such as an explicit focus on applications rather than humans and philosophy, and a reliance on the original “12 factors”1 to define and characterize applications.
