Other commonly used biomedical coatings: pyrolytic carbon coatings
M. Hassler, Tornier – Bioprofile, France
Abstract:
This chapter describes the forms and properties of carbons used in the biological environment. Pyrolytic carbon has a long and successful history in the manufacture of mechanical heart valves. Newer and promising applications of Pyrocarbon in orthopedics are discussed. Some of these orthopedic applications show promise and have the potential for an equally successful future.
