Abstract
The increasing sophistication of social engineering and psychological hacking exploits cognitive vulnerabilities, making individuals the weakest link in cybersecurity. This research investigates psychological manipulation strategies through empirical analysis using the SE-CVDB (Social Engineering and Cognitive Vulnerability Database), a novel dataset compiled from 1200 real-world social engineering cases, including phishing, baiting, pretexting, and deepfake incidents. We used a hybrid analytical framework integrating behavioral vector profiling and cognitive exploit scoring to assess susceptibility patterns across demographics and platforms. Results demonstrate a 91.3% classification accuracy in identifying vulnerable user profiles and a 78.6% precision in forecasting manipulation success rates based on behavioral cues. The study introduces new metrics—Cognitive Persuasion Index (CPI) and psychological resistance threshold (PRT)—to quantify manipulation resilience. These findings lay the groundwork for predictive and preventive artificial intelligence–based cyber hygiene systems.
