ACETATE
- Very similar to rayon with the main difference being that rayon is heat resistant but acetate can melt
- Made from the cellulose of wood combined with acetic acid
- Often blended with other types of fibers
- Shiny and slippery, acetate is a cheap alternative to silk
- Lightweight and glossy
- Delicate, does not resist wear and tear
Commonly Used For: Graduation caps and gowns. Special occasion dresses and wedding dresses. Lining. Scarves, blouses, and ties.
Sewing Tips: Dry clean only. It won’t survive traditional machine wash and dry.
