Corn Poppy—The corn poppy, Papaver rhoeas, is one of my favorite flowers to photograph. It’s a common flower that is pretty easy to grow and is spectacularly colored with many sentimental associations.

My corn poppy image was photographed on a light box with a wide-angle macro lens. It’s pretty unusual to have a macro lens that is also wide angle because this out-of-the-ordinary combination makes for a seldom seen view of the flower.

Besides the optics, I used the exposure to emphasize the light channel going from the bottom of the image to the top by intentionally underexposing the image (by about 3 EV).
