Chapter 13Governing Software
A Linux system is only as good as the software you install on it. The Linux kernel by itself is pretty boring; you need applications such as web servers, database servers, browsers, and word processing tools to actually do anything useful with your Linux system. This chapter addresses the role of software on your Linux system and how you get and manage it. Next, we explore the ways Linux makes things easier for us by bundling prebuilt software packages to make installation and removal of applications a breeze.
