Data Acknowledgments
The datasets used in the examples and exercises discussed in this book are available from the website www.colostate.edu/computationalstatistics/. Many of these were collected by scientific researchers in diverse fields. The remaining data are owned by us or have been simulated for instructional purposes. Further details about ownership of some datasets are given below.
We thank Richard Barker, Department of Statistics, University of Otago, New Zealand, for the fur seal pup data used in Section 7.6 and for hosting us during a great sabbatical.
We thank Ross Beveridge and Bruce Draper, Department of Computer Science, Colorado State University, for the face recognition data used in Example 2.5, and for the opportunity to collaborate with them on this interesting project.
We thank Gordon Reese, Department of Fishery and Wildlife Biology, Colorado State University, for his assistance in extracting the Utah serviceberry data used in Chapter 8.
We thank Alan Herlihy, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, Oregon State University, for providing the stream monitoring data used in Example 12.4 and for his assistance with the interpretation of the results. These data and the data used in Problem 12.5 were produced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through its Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) [185, 639].
The leukemia data in Problem 2.3 are used with permission, and are taken from [202]. Copyright American Society of Hematology, 1963.
