This part of the book introduces images and image processing, and then proceeds to show how image processing may be developed in order to start the process of image analysis. By the end of Chapter 8, image analysis has been taken, via this “traditional” route, far enough to achieve a good many useful practical aims. The main topics to be developed are noise suppression, feature detection, object segmentation, and region analysis with the aid of morphology—itself a development of basic procedures defined and elaborated in the first two chapters of Part 1.
