About the Contributors

William D. Marscher, P.E. is CEO and Senior Consultant for Mechanical Solutions, Inc. His career of 50 years has involved design, development, and troubleshooting of pumps, fans, compressors, turbines, and motors. He has BSME and MSME degrees from Cornell University, where he was a NASA fellow, and an MS in Applied Mechanics from RPI. He has held senior positions at Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney, Worthington, Dresser Industries, and CNREC. For ASME, he was Chair of the Predictive Maintenance committee and was Organizing Chair for two rotating machinery conferences. For STLE, he was the 1998/99 President, is a Fellow, and was Associate Editor of Tribology Transactions magazine. For ASTM, for 40 years he has been on the standards voting committees for wear, erosion, and metal fatigue. He is one of the U.S. voting members of the ISO/ANSI machinery vibration & noise standards committee TC108 and is an 18-year member of the Advisory Committee for the annual Texas A&M Pump Symposium. He is past Board Chairman for the Machinery Failure Prevention Technology Society of the Vibration Institute and is the recipient of the Vibration Institute’s Jack L. Frarey Award for excellence in machinery diagnostics.
