Summary
RESTful web services are growing in number and are providing
opportunities for Silverlight 2 applications to reach out to a variety
of third-party and custom services. Using the WebClient and HttpWebRequest libraries, you can make
requests to these RESTful services and consume their responses. In
addition to making HTTP GET requests,
Silverlight 2 applications can issue POST HTTP actions. Some solid techniques are
available for creating through WCF web services a custom RESTful service
that a Silverlight 2 application will consume. Chapters 8 and 9 explore these topics more deeply via
demonstrations of interactions with the Amazon.com and Twitter.com
RESTful service APIs.
