It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

There is a reason why source system owners are so cranky. It is often the result of requests for multiple extracts from their source systems for the same data. One of the major issues in terms of cost and maintenance data integration is the number of uncontrolled, undocumented, and duplicative data integration extraction routines for the same data. The goal is to have one data integration component per source type (flat file, relational, etc.).
