Glossary

Attribute:: Data pertaining to an entity. For example, if an entity is EMPLOYEE, attributes of the entity might be name, address, phone_no.

Binary relationship:: A relationship between two entities.

Candidate key:: An attribute or set of attributes that uniquely identifies individual occurrences of an entity type (uniquely identifies a row in a relational table).

Cardinality ratio:: Describes the number of one entity that is related to another entity. Example: A dorm room may have many occupants; the cardinality of DORM to OCCUPANT is one to many (1:M)

Category:: A subclass of a superclass from which the subclass may inherit attributes of the superclass; also referred to as union type of super-class to subclass.
