If you’re a veteran with experience operating a conventional still or video camera, the first thing you did when you got your hands on a new piece of gear was take it out and put it through its paces. The tendency is to see what your equipment can do, and resort to the manual only after you’ve discovered that certain operations aren’t quite as intuitive as you’d thought, or that you’ll need some help understanding all the options of a particular feature. Trial and error isn’t the best way to learn how to work with a camera, but a surprising number of photo enthusiasts choose that route, at least for their initial sessions with a new piece of equipment.
