Chapter 12. Radio Resource Management

The 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands used for wireless are not regulated by communications commissions such as the FCC or European Regulators Group (ERG). Because the spectrum is not regulated, anyone can install and power on a wireless device that operates on those channels without checking with their neighbor across the street or even the FCC. This can pose various problems for any wireless network because the radio frequency (RF) environment is going to be dynamic, and a site survey conducted before you install your wireless network might not be valid three months down the road.
