A deep discussion of audio effect signal processing is beyond the scope of this book; you can find many algorithms and theoretical discussions in Designing Audio Effects Plug-Ins in C++. Audio effects, however, are now standard in most synthesizers. The more popular synth effects (FX) are delay, reverb, chorus/flanger, and vocoder. If you have played a professionally programmed patch on just about any commercial synth, you have most likely heard at least one audio effect operating on the synthesized signal.
