Every network design is, in some sense, unique. Each comes with its own opportunities and pitfalls. At the same time, various tricks of the trade can be used to improve the economics of a network design. Many of these have broad applicability. It is useful to take the time to understand them at this point, because they will be coming up again and again as we discuss the network design process in detail.
