- ACR
Adobe Camera Raw, the RAW converter plug-in that's found in Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
- aperture
The opening in the lens diaphragm that's measured in f-stops that allows light to reach the digital camera's sensor (or film).
- backlighting
A condition in which the light falls on the subject from behind. This can create dramatic shadows and silhouettes.
- Blending mode
Method of blending Photoshop layers such as Multiply, Screen, Darken, and Lighten.
- blinkies
Flashing on and off that occurs on the dSLR's LCD screen when the camera's highlight overexposure warning is set to alert, which shows the photographer where detail is being lost.
- burn
The term applied to burning in or darkening specific areas in an image. It originates from the traditional darkroom technique in which areas of the print were burned and made darker by using longer exposure times in selective parts of the photograph.
- cable release
A camera attachment that allows the photographer to release the shutter without touching the camera, thereby reducing the possibility of camera shake.
- channel swapping
Using the Channel Mixer in Photoshop to create false color IR images; used often in processing IR images for the blue-sky effect.
- collage
The process of creating a composite using multiple images.
- compact flash
A type of memory card used by many digital single lens reflex cameras.
- contrast
The range between the dark and light tones in an image.
- depth of field
The total area within the image that is sharp. Many digital cameras ...
