In this chapter, which introduces a type of system we have not yet considered, we will be relying on the discussions of linear least-squares systems in Chapter 8. Adaptive signal processing systems, as introduced here, are time-varying versions of the systems in Chapter 8, in which the weights are varied to allow the systems to adapt to trends or variations in the statistical properties of nonstationary signals.
