Light is created from shadow—it emerges from the areas that haven‘t been drawn in. A shadow cast by an object—a cast shadow—becomes softer the farther away it is from the object. Shadows on the object itself are less defined and sit on the side or area facing away from the light. The interaction of light and shadow opens up many possibilities for juxtaposing the foreground and background, making the subject three dimensional.
