Chapter 8DSA and Co‐site Interference Mitigation
The concept of blanking signal was mentioned at the conclusion of Chapter 2. With this concept, a platform that has both communications waveforms and a spectrum sensor has to consider the impact of communications activities on sensing accuracy. The sensor should not be sensing all the times. It will be important for the communications waveforms to inform the spectrum sensor of transmission time intervals on the operational frequency bands. During these intervals, the spectrum sensor would refrain from performing spectrum sensing because spectrum sensing will be impacted (blanked) by the communications signal emitters at the same platform. Even if sensing is at a different frequency band from the transmission band, frequency‐domain lobes (co‐sites interference) can impact the sensing accuracy.
Blanking signal is a technique used to ensure that spectrum sensing is not impacted by a known communications signal on the same platform. In addition to ensuring sensing accuracy, DSA design faces the critical aspect of making sure new frequency assignments will not suffer from co‐site interference. DSA as a set of cloud services should include a subset of services for co‐site interference mitigation that takes into consideration the different sources of co‐site interference. Co‐site interference can impact new frequency assignments, causing the rippling mentioned earlier in this book. Co‐site interference mitigation as a set of DSA services ...
