There are two types of problems in the design of machine foundations. First, there may be undesirable vibrations induced due to base excitation. The base is excited due to either a machine operating in nearby room or building or due to nearby road or rail traffic. Second, the vibrations are caused due to the presence of rotating unbalance mass of the machine. These vibrations are transmitted through its foundation to adjoining areas.
