ADO.NET supports persistence for objects and object graphs through XML serialization of two types. The classes in the System.Xml.Serialization namespace appear to be more XML-centric in persisting objects than those in System.Run-time.Serialization. The persistence and object mapping mechanism that you use will depend on your desire for interoperability (XmlSerialization) versus nearly perfect mapping of .NET data types (Runtime.Serialization). In addition, the .NET XML APIs—especially XmlReader, XmlNavigator, and XmlSchemas—map almost directly to the ODBMS and IDMS style of data access.
