Modern EDRs sometimes make use of less popular components not covered in this book so far. These auxiliary telemetry sources can provide immense value to the EDR, offering access to data that would otherwise be unavailable from other sensors.

Because these data sources are uncommon, we won’t take a deep dive into their inner workings. Instead, this appendix covers some examples of them, how they work, and what they can offer an EDR agent. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it shines a light on some of the more niche components you may encounter during your research.
