Excel PivotTables are worksheet areas that act as if you had entered formulas to summarize data. This feature enables you to create two-way tables from unsummarized data arranged in columns. With a PivotTable, you can drill down, or look at decreasing levels of summarization down to the unsummarized data itself.
To create a PivotTable, first arrange your data in consecutive columns, using the first row for a variable name label. (This is the data arrangement used by the downloadable Excel files that Appendix F describes.) Open to the worksheet that contains your unsummarized data and:
