The second key pillar in a Software-Defined Datacenter is Software-Defined Networking (SDN). Virtualized network resources are not a new concept. Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) have been traditionally used to isolate networks, and virtual appliances have been replacing physical network devices in datacenters for years. As networks grow, managing these complex environments becomes a challenge.
