Chapter 9

Design a strategy for securing data

When designing your strategy for securing data, you need to identify the data you have, understand where this data resides, and understand the options available to protect, monitor, and detect attempts to compromise that data. Understanding your data landscape is critical because you can’t protect what you don’t know exists. Also, consider whether the data is at rest or in transit (also known as in motion). This also will dictate which security controls should be in place to secure the data.
