Appendix A. Comparing Worksheets Side by Side

Excel 2010 makes it really easy to compare two worksheets saved in separate workbook files side by side on a single computer screen. This technique makes it easy to copy data from one worksheet to another or, as called for in a number of the exercises in this workbook, compare different versions of the same spreadsheet (as in comparing the version of an exercise file that you've just completed to the completed version of the same file saved on your CD-ROM).

The general procedure for comparing worksheets saved in separate workbooks side by side is as follows:

  1. With the workbook file containing the worksheet that you want to check against another open, open the workbook file containing the worksheet to which you want to compare it (File

    For example, say you want to compare the Number Formats worksheet that you've created in Exercise 3-6 of the workbook against the completed worksheet in Solved3-6.xlsx on the CD-ROM. With the Number Formats worksheet open in the Excel 2010 program window, you then open the Solved3-6.xlsx workbook file found in the Chap3 folder of the Excel 2010 Workbook folder on your CD-ROM.

  2. With the new workbook containing the worksheet against which you want to compare the previously displayed worksheet displayed in the Excel program window, select View
