Imagine, if you will, the romanticized popular notion of an author at work. Gaunt, pale, bent over the typewriter late at night (perhaps working by candlelight), feverishly hitting the keys, taking breaks only to rip out one sheet and replace it with a blank one, or maybe to take a sip of a very strong drink.
